The third Sons of Ken release – fourth if you count the Phase Space DJ Special – brings together 21st Century electro-funk sensibilities and vintage Cold War paranoia in one deliciously danceable package.

As the threat of nuclear annihilation makes a surprise return to the public consciousness, helped along by wild threats from atom-age cheerleaders Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, the time is ripe for a record that not only gets dancers’ feet moving, but also gives them useful tips on what to do in the event of a nuclear attack.

It’s all underpinned by that unique and unmistakable Sons of Ken sound – with squelchy Minimoogs, glitchy six-string bass and bubbling bongos driving the beat all the way through to the discothèque at the end of the world.

On the flip side comes DON’T GO TO THE DISCO, an (if anything) even more danceable chugging near-instrumental that has memorably been described by one band member’s cat as ‘the new Voodoo Ray’.
